Everything Old is New Again
I came across this photo of Christina Aguilera and thought, "She reminds me of someone." And it came to me. Blonde bombshell Jayne Mansfield, of course. I also found a very macabre website: www.howtheydied.com. If you ever had a burning curiosity to see photos of a dead James Dean, well, they're there.
Here is something I never thought I'd be saying.
Me to daughter: "Pull up your jeans. Your thong is showing."
No, I didn't buy her the thong. She got it on a shopping foray with a friend and her mother.
When I'm not looking for dead people, another website I visit frequently is amazon.com. I discovered a year or so ago that I can buy prezzies for the family in the U.S., have them wrapped and shipped for less than buying them here and shipping them over.
My dad's 81st birthday is Saturday so I was perusing the amazon site for something. I mean what do you get an 81-year-old man who doesn't seem to need or want anything? Since he's a gadgety, tooly kind of guy, I got him a flashlight (torch). But not just any flashlight. This one turns red, blue, green, and white for different uses. Looking for further ideas, I looked at the Those Who Bought This Also Bought section. Amazing. Someone who bought that flashlight also bought a copy of the Koran. Someone also bought a Garmin U.S. maps device. And a copy of Ultimate Survival: Who Lives, Who Dies, and Why. And lots of knives. Need I tell you my overactive imagination went wild with the possibilities of finding terrorists this way? It does make you wonder, though, doesn't it?

Or local "patriotic" militias...hmmm...yeah, terrorists.
ah, when boobs were boobs....
i can't live without amazon.com
and if you spend enough money there, they send you a $25 gift certificate! i got mine and spent it on the same day.
same hour, i think.
have absolutely no idea what tog et your dad but would be glad to know what you do end up getting him!
Yes, it does seem to get harder and harder to buy gifts for the older set. I'm sure he will love whatever you get for him!
I've never shopped on Amazon.com, I'm afraid to get hooked on it and then I'll never leave the office!
You've just reminded me I need to find a preggers book I promised Mrs P.
James Dean, my dad actually looked like him when he was a lot younger. Now he looks like a bloated toad. Probably what JD would look like now if he was still alive!
Would you think that amazon.com is targetted for related buys by the security services? Just a thought.
By the way, according to your counter your site has had 300+ visits from all corners of the world - except here!! - and I'm always here!! - or am I?
j.: yeah, it occurred to me it might be mercenary types because Muslim terrorists would probably already have their own copy of the Koran.
laurie: I know -- Christina's look really fake next to the real thing. Did you know Jayne Mansfield's daughter was on Law and Order? I didn't even know she had a daughter.
I love amazon.com.
flowerpot: I got him the torch and a device that slices open a seatbelt should you get in an accident, which he seems to do more and more frequently.
jenny: So much about the internet is addictive.
VI: So do you look like your dad?
debio: If the security services haven't targetted them, they should.
The counter thing is strange. Have you seen DJ Kirby's? Would they count you as UAE?
the thought that popped into my mind, was maybe you ought to get out more.... then I remembered you are on Friday!

I'm into thongs because they don't reveal a panty line. But it's sad when my kids say, "Mom, pull up your pants."
Did I give them up? No. But I did give up the hip-hugger jeans -- known as low-rise these days.
I can't understand why a woman or a man wants to stick a bit of cheese-wire up their arse? C'mon - it hurts like hell!
My love the way your mind works would scare many the terrorist! I really think we should hook you up with MI6.
Happy day to your father!
Amazon.com wraps?! Huzzah! I love those chaps! I always order tons of stuff, have it mailed to my friend's house in MA, usa - and then pick it up (as I did last week)when I visit. It's Christmas!
MOB: And you can get infections.
Lady M: If only I were as organised as you, I'd order ALL my Christmas presents from Amazon.com, have them sent to my dad, and pick them up in the summer. They don't wrap everything, but they do wrap some things.
We have something in common - I like looking for dead people too.
Crystal xx
I buy my dad books. To begin with I thought he was just putting them away but then he started to talk to me about them and now he always has something on the go. This from a man who grew up in a house without any books and who thought "they weren't for the likes of him".
Where are you in the northwest?
Amazon.com is one of my favorite websites. I have years worth of purchase records. I hate to think how much I've spent there.
My dad loves books. I buy him new releases by Clive Cussler every time they come out then hold on to them until it's the proper holiday. He's in his 60s and he's read them for years. He especially likes the ones with Dirk Pitt.
CJ: Ah, I bet there's more in common than just looking for dead people.
elizabethm: Welcome to my blog. I'm on the Wirral (nobody is ever in the Wirral). It's that peninsula between Liverpool and Wales, if you're not familiar with it. I have to be careful about what books I buy my dad now. He's become a real fundamentalist Christian in his old age and won't read anything "anti-Christian." Such a pain!
kaycie: It's hard to believe that amazon took so long to turn a profit with so many fans. As I said above, I have to be careful about the books I buy my dad.
I've started posting xmas parcel home, already missed the last surface posting date, where does the eyar go? Have sent it surface anyway (with my fingers crossed it gets there on time) as air mail is too expensive!
Is your dad open to religous scholarship? Elaine Pagels writes some wonderful books. I can think of one about the origins of Satan and another about Adam and Eve. I find them fascinating. Ms. Pagels is a devout Christian as well as a scholar. You might take a look at them.
DJ: I think you have to send in Ocotber to guarantee Christmas delivery for surface mail. Even then it doesn't always work. Especially if you're a member of my family and you forget to put UK on the address.
Kaycie: Thanks for the name of that author. I'll keep her in mind for future gifts.
