And the winner is

When I was a little girl, I loved watching all those beauty contests: Miss America, Miss Universe, Miss World. I loved seeing these glamourous women (they were all glamourous in the 60s) dressed up in their evening gowns. Hearing the strains of "There she is, Miss America" made me dream of one day being a winner. Not necessarily of a beauty contest. Just a winner. Now I'm beginning to sound like a loser, and that is not what I am. But I've never been a winner either. Or not very often.

So when I read other people's blogs about all these awards bestowed upon them by their fellow bloggers, I think "Oh yes, that's very nice. Yes, that blogger definitely deserves that."

But a wee bit of me thinks, "Well, that's another award I haven't won."

I know, LOSER for even thinking about it. But at least I'm honest.

But today I visited annie's blog, and much to my surprise, I found I'm a winner. Annie, bless her heart, has bestowed the Nice Matters Award upon me. Thanks so much, annie. I don't know why it looks so wonky on my page. If anyone out there knows and can tell me how to fix it, please do.

To pass it along, I nominate, in no particular order (the envelope please) (drum roll) Lady Macleod, Chantay, DJ, Crystal Jigsaw, Pixie, Kelly, and Kaycie.(Wild applause). You're all fantastic, and I'm so glad I've been able to meet you through this blog. Just reading what you have to say brightens my day.

If you don't know how to get the award on your blog, DON'T ASK ME. I was lucky to get it on mine at all.

yay! you ARE nice! and it DOES matter!

i think i can help you get it resized on your blog, but it means you need to upload the image to your picasa album and if you don't know what that means i might have trouble explaining it.

(once in the picasa album, you can pick what size you want for your sidebar.)

Well done on being nice! Your award is certainly nice and large...

Aha! I can' help you with the sizing because I had the same problem earlier :)

Go into your 'customize' section, find the picture element where the award picture is - when you click to edit it, you will see an option that says 'shrink to fit' it will have a check mark in it. Uncheck it and save. Then it should look okay.

Thank you so much. Would it surprise you to know that I have been meaning to give you the same award? But I am very slow about these things and someone else beat me to it. I hope it's the thought that counts. Maybe I'll give it to you anyway . . .

I can never get anything to look right in my sidebar, so I always just display the award in the post.

Congrats on the award! You do seem very nice. If only it came with a tiara and bouquet. I'm new to your blog and look forward to reading more.

Sweetheart, you have made my day, and I can assure you that if there were a club for people-who-never-quite-get-the-awards, then I am it's chairman, or chairperson if you want to be poilitically correct. Funnily enough I was only thinking this orning how thrilled I am to have met such lovely and supportive bloggers online.

Thanks so much. xx

I may know how to fix your picture...if you go to the template of your blog and click on your Nice Award picture entry, then unclick the box that says Shrink to fit, it should change the size back. It worked for me anyway!

laurie: Thank you. I think I got it fixed (and good thing because I haven't a clue what a picasa album is, but it sounds very nice -- sort of like Latin music).

Pix: I'm sorry you're not so good right now. I'll find some funny emails to send you and brighten your day.

SAHD: Where have you been? I haven't heard from you in ages. Yes, it was a nice, large award but I resized it. (If only life were that simple).

Annie: I did what you said and it worked. Thanks, sweetie.

Kaycie: Ask Annie or laurie or kelly next time. They all seem to know what they're doing.

Jenny: Oh how did you know I love roses?

Elle: Welcome to my humble blog. I hope I can live up to your expectations.

Kelly: Well, you certainly deserve this and more. P.S. I followed yours and Annie's suggestions on resizing the award.

CJ: We're all winners. Did you find the article of interest, by the way?

You are too funny, and nice!

If you are ever feeling down about the awards thing you should visit the history pages and see just how many truly great people never won anything, or worse yet only after they were dead (ow), so I think you are in good company. You are a winner in my book!

Thank you for the nod. I appreciate it very much. When an award, or a thank you comes from those we admire and like, it means even more.

picasa album is where blogger stores all the photos you put on your blog.

you can get there from the homepage.

i figured that out through frustrating DAYS and DAYS of trial and error, trying to get pictures in my bleeping sidebar....

your award looks lovely now

From one nice lady to another, U ROCK!!! Thank you for awarding me. I'm so happy I could cry (I'm a first-timer, too).

Lady M: Of course, when you put it in perspective like that, of course lots of people were never honored in their lifetime. I don't put myself in that league, by the way.

Laurie: Thank you. I can do some things with the computer, but only basic things. I like the idea of a picasa album being Latin music better.

Queeny: Don't cry. Just spread the love, honey.
