I've just got back from the hospital (today)with my mum she has had confirmation that she has skin cancer and it has to be removed. So she will get an appointment within the next month.
chrisb: which type of skin cancer is it? If it's basal cell or squamous, don't worry. My parents and my sister and several friends have had basal cell cancers removed safely.
