The Wound:
The Cone:
Jakey's feeling very sorry for himself because he does NOT like the cone and he doesn't understand why he has to wear it. I've taken him for two walks so far. The vet said only 10 minutes, but he's only lasting 5 before he starts sitting down. I guess it's gently does it. I can already see the difference on his right side.

Poor baby- Nugget hates the cone-head too, but discovered it was very useful for scooping up the ball, or a treat, into her mouth. Forutunately she didn't need to wear it very long as she didn't really 'bother' her wounds and it did no permanent psychological damage! Big licks to Jake and hope you are all feeling better soon. xxxwoof
Ouch!
Poor thing and such a sad face. But I bet he's please to be home!
Poor little guy. I bet he'll be back to normal in no time. Puppies are so resilient.
You're such a good doggie mama. He's lucky to have you take care of him.
kelly: He keeps crashing into things, and watching him drink water is interesting. I'm sure, like Nugget, he'll get over it.
annie: I know.
chrisb: He was so happy when I picked him up. He couldn't stop smiling (I'm sure dogs smile).
kaycie: Yes, a bit like kids.
shania: Thank you. I try.
Oh bless him! Hope he's feeling better soon. I'm sure he'll heal more quickly now he's home.
oh my god he looks like boscoe!
we have a smaller collar that is much less hard on dogs. i'll see if i can find the URL for it.....
it holds the neck straight so they can't turn and lick, but it's not as scary for them and they don't crash into things because it doens't stick out.
here you go... the bitenot collar.
works really well for boscoe. the ecollar terrifies him.
bitenot website
Bless, bless, bless. I am in the middle of a battle not to get a dog (mainly because I like them and we really do not have the lifestyle to be proper dog parents.) This is adding ammo to my argument.
Hope he gets better soon.
Hello. This post is likeable, and your blog is very interesting, congratulations :-). I will add in my blogroll =). If possible gives a last there on my blog, it is about the TV de Plasma, I hope you enjoy. The address is http://tv-de-plasma.blogspot.com. A hug.
I hope Jake continues to do well and that the other dogs don't call him a Funnelhead. :)
poor darling, it must be very scary having that great thing round his neck and not knowing why. big hugs - or gentle ones.
I have a lot of reading to do to catch up on all your news. Hope things are getting better for everyone in your home.
rosie: It's amazing how quickly he is healing.
laurie: Thanks for that. I'll be visiting the website as he's going to need a cone when he has the other side done too. And I'd thought he resembled Bosco too. Oh, and I got hold of that magazine I emailed you about. Your Doug will be repulsed. Every man I've shown it to has been.
expatmum: Oh, don't use my baby's bad hips as an excuse not to get a dog. I would have gotten Jake ten times over, hips notwithstanding, because he is so fantastic and has added so much joy to our lives.
-ann: Conehead is what occurred to me (having been a big Saturday Night Live fan in the 70s).
flowerpot: I think he's slowly getting used to it. He gets LOTS of sympathy.
marymary: Yeah, my life has kind of gone pear-shaped over the last six to eight weeks.
dogs never like 'the cone'. my husband's dog managed to find a way to around the cone to get to where he had a tumor removed. it ended up being cancer and it took his life a few months later.
anyways, jake is adorable and he'll be good as new in no time! :)
Oh poor baby :( Fingers crossed he heals really quickly
ahhh, bless him!
Oh my gosh, that look on his face in the cone is so pathetic and so adorable. I'm guessing he's getting lots of extra love these days...
Wakeup, if he is really struggling with the collar, it might be worth trying a t-shirt. You put it on backwards so that his tail goes through the neck and his back legs go through the arms. Gather up the rest of the t-shirt and either tie a knot in it if you have enough material or twist it up and tie it with an elastic band or something similar.
My dog Tom never minds having an Elizabethan cone on: he knows that an hour or two of crashing into things - not to mention all the dirt he scoops up and brings into the house - will drive me mad and I'll take it off!
Thanks, Laurie, for the tip about the BiteNot collar. I've printed off the maker's information from the web and I'm going to see if my vet here in the UK can get some. They ought to be very popular.
ciara: I'm so sorry about your husband's dog. Jake is getting better. The swelling's down and he's walking more.
aoj: Thanks for the t-shirt idea. I might give it a go.
vi: I know.
PM: He's getting lots of treats and follows me around the house banging into my legs until I pet him. He's no fool.
doglover: The cones are a nuisance, aren't they? I'm going to look up Webster Veterinary Supply on the web and see if they sell the collars over here.
I am so sorry to see your poor puppy in such a state.
