Fun Monday III in which I reveal my inner slob
In this Fun Monday, hosted by AOJ and the Lurchers, we are asked to show our bedside tables and drawers. I'm not showing anybody my drawers, but I'll show you the mess I see on first awakening.
I put Vaseline on my lips every night before I go to bed and lotion on my hands. I then check I've set the alarm about a thousand times (I have forgotten to do this from time to time). The picture is of my husband and two children and was taken about seven or eight years ago. I have other photos of the kids on my dressing table.
The jewelry box is one of two. I asked for a big jewelry box one Christmas but got two smaller ones instead. I use this one for the jewelry I wear most often. As you can see, it's an overflowing mess. Every once in a while I go through it and tidy it up.
Next to my side of the bed is a big pile of books. Some I've already read and need to put in the bookshelf. Some I plan to read at some future date. Some I'm reading now (the doorstopper Until I Find You by John Irving is holding me up at the moment).
I also have a handy piece of furniture called a "chair-robe." I use this to pile all my clothes on before I go to bed. Dirty clothes go in the clothes bin, obviously. But some aren't dirty and are therefore wearable again. Rather than waste wardrobe space with them, I pile them on the chair-robe. On the top currently is the new swimsuit I bought to take with me when I go skiing. It fits me very well and was a bargain at £9.
So there it is. My boudoir. I really should tidy it up, but I spend TOO MUCH TIME blogging.

Sounds like an interesting ski trip. I have never taken a swimsuit with me!!
Softinthehead: Ha! Well, I won't be wearing it while I'm skiing, but I'm planning on using the pool while I'm there.
ah, you and i are so alike.
You're now on the list....I'm not sure why you weren't there as I'm convinced I put you there...hey ho!
Does the vaseline work? I never thought of doing that evern though I have really dry lips at the moment.
laurie: If you ever feel like you're the untidiest person ever, just visit my blog.
aoj: I went back to your previous posts and I actually couldn't find a comment from me so maybe I dreamed that I said I'd participate. I actually do things like this from time to time.
I wear the vaseline every night and I can honestly say I have no wrinkles on my lips. They do get dry sometimes though.
I'm thinking that if you end up sick in bed you will be prepared with lots of things to read. :)
I tell you what- it's different decor but it might as well be the same bedroom. I have the chair-robe, the book stack (mostly on pregnancy at the moment. Have entirely given up on Until I Find You for the time being), the photos, the alarm clock, and all the other stuff is in my bedside drawer which, needless to say, is crammed with tissues and vaseline, handcream, ear plugs etc etc etc. Phew- I'm not the only one!
I had to restrain myself from rearranging my books and dusting the nightstand before I took my picture!
I think we might be just a little bit different. ;)
lisa's chaos: You're really thinking, "She will end up sick in bed with all that clutter."
kelly: Nice to have a soulmate.
kaycie: Uh, yeah, I do think we are a tiny bit different despite having the same birthday, if bedside tables are anything to go by.
That's one sloppy procedure! You check whether you've set the alarm a thousand times, but still manage sometimes not to set it!
I have the same jewelry problem! And if my husband hadn't packed like a fiend, we would have very similar bedsides.
YEAH!!! Finally another messy gal! I was starting to feel shame. I had meant to tidy it up for the FM but didn't get to it and now I still want to do it. I do tidy it up every once in a while, always goes back to what you saw!
I love the "chair-robe". I need to get one of those instead of the side of the tub!!
Ha! Your chair looks like my treadmill! Enjoy...
Now I know why you chortled at mine! I think we are related...lol.
I'll let you into a secret, I didn't show the pile of books on my floor just the ones in the drawer! Your jewellery box looks pretty and over flowing is good it means you have a lot of jewels!
I finally bought myself my own large jewelry box. It replaced about 4 little ones. I got tired of tangled necklaces.
Ah wakeup, your chair-robe reminded me of friends--the husband draped his clothes over a rocking chair in their bedroom. Only when the chair toppled over was he expected to hang up clothes.
Know what you mean about excessive alarm checking--especially if it's a big deal day.
Hey doglover: You don't give much of yourself away on your bio info. Sometimes I'm too tired to follow my procedure and that's how the alarm doesn't get set.
tiggerlane: I don't let my husband near my mess(es). Otherwise, I'd never find anything.
kaytabug: I thought of tidying up, then thought, "Nah!"
ellenb: You mean you don't use your treadmill as God intended? Good thing I don't have a treadmill. It would probably look worse than the chair-robe.
sandy: We messy girls need to stick together. (But not literally.)
chrisb: I must admit my hubby is good to me jewelry-wise.
pedcrossing: I think I'll have to do that.
faye: I wouldn't mind if my husband was messy. It would make me feel better. But he's not unfortunately.
Your room looks eerily familiar to mine!!
Wow - it could be my room!! Slobs of the world unite!
I love the chair robe. I need one.
I want to see the titles of the books.
I too love the untidyness..but once a month something takes over an i spend the entire day cleaning!!!
I have a "chair-closet" just like yours.
In fact, I'm bring another one into the bedroom today, just so I don't have to hang up the laundry.
I have a chair trunk for those clothes. I wonder how many people really hang up their clothes.
That's not a mess. That's normal. At least that's my version of normal.
I'd be too scared to show you my bedroom, it's a disaster area! Along with the rest of the house!
since we .well my husband , moved the bedroom around, without consultation,I may say.
I have no room for a bedside table.
My books reside on the floorish and under the bedish. We have wait for it spots on the wall, two each, but mine dont work. But thats great cos they are like blackpool when on.
I hate them.
I am not a slob and neither are you, we just are not consumed by tidyitis and conformity.
Life is too short to dust.
I'm glad someone else isn't tidy!
alison: You know what? You're right. I just visited.
beth: I wouldn't know what to do with myself if I weren't a slob.
beckie: Any chair can be converted easily into a chair robe. I should have turned the books around so you could see the titles.
jettie: I too can get sick of the untidiness and will spend some time dusting, vacuuming, and general cleaning. Maybe a little less than once a month though.
swampwitch: Isn't it enough that we wash and fold the clothes? Hanging them up can be a step too far.
kathyb: well, my husband hangs his up. He thinks I'm the weird one.
RC: I like your version of normal. By the way, I'm having trouble accessing your blog. Does anyone else have the same problem?
VI: Well, you're a busy woman. You've got about three jobs and two kids and 10,000 men so you can't be expected to be tidy as well.
Valleys mam: Your husband dared to move the furniture without asking you? You are right, though, life is too short to dust.
Flowerpot: Tidy people have idle minds (no offense, tidy people).
Chair robe! Hahaha! Good one! I'm finding that I tend to like the people who have rather piled up nightstands, they seem...well, more interesting! Great post!
Excellent. I have a wall of shame in my bedroom. A heap that festers. Its mine and I love it.
Chair-robe you have created a fabulous invention. I have a chair-robe too, and my husband has a pile on the side of his bed for the same purpose. Have a wonderful ski vacation.
Hey mjd: I just had a peek at your side of the bed and it's MUCH TIDIER than mine. I don't believe you have a chair robe.
Yay! I was beginning to think that I was the only Messy Person. Chaos is the key to creativity, I say. Or to insanity. One of those, I always get confused.
Nice to meet you-
Patience
Patience, honey, I am loving your blog!
